A CUDDLY NEW PLUSH TOY
MARKS TRUMP’S SUCCESS
Forget the Democrats’ empty threats of impeachment.
Forget all that fake news and the incessant carping from your liberal friends and coworkers.
Forget Stormy Daniels.
Instead, be assured, my friends, that Donald Trump has truly established himself as President of the United States.
How do I know this?
Because American business — the ultimate reflector of public sentiment — has said it is so.
Presenting: Trumpy Bear, a cuddly teddy complete with blond comb-over and comfy American flag lap robe.
When I first saw the commercial on TV I thought it was a gag. But, lo and behold, it’s real. America’s marketers have endorsed The Donald with all their avaricious little hearts.
Companies don’t commit to product introductions unless they’re convinced they have a good shot at market share.
Yes, yes. I remember New Coke. I even recall the Edsel. Mistakes happen.
But mark my words — The Donald’s tenure in office is secured.
Of course, there have been other signs as well. Take the latest turn in Korea. Suddenly Kim Jung Un has gone all kissy-face.
Now, I don’t believe for a minute that Kim’s not working some kind of angle. The Korean War isn’t over quite yet.
But then, Kim and his father and his grandfather before them have always had some angle to work. And they’ve done pretty well.
If Hillary were President, Kim would be squeezing her for more aid — and probably an agreement to remove U.S. troops from the peninsula.
The game with Trump is different. Not that Kim wouldn’t like to get something tangible out of it. But I think he’s mostly playing for time. He’s come to see The Donald as too much of a wild card. And he’s obviously been watching CNN, so he figures that Trump will be gone by 2020 at the latest, and then he’ll be dealing with a predictable Democrat.
Well okay, now Trump has to demonstrate just how good a dealmaker he is. But the change in attitude on Kim’s part is testament enough to the power of Trumpian spontaneity.
All in all, I’m feeling pretty hopeful about The Donald. Because this guy keeps revealing native political instincts that are truly remarkable. Not to mention considerable fortitude and perseverance.
Look what he’s accomplished. Tax reform. Conservative judicial appointments. Undoing most of Obama’s executive orders. Renegotiating NAFTA. Starting construction of the border wall. And more. All achieved while the major media and about 90 percent of the federal bureaucracy are arrayed against him — and Mueller’s ongoing quest for the Holy Grail of an impeachable offense.
Oh, and those babes on “The View.” They’re against him too.
Now comes the latest anti-constitutional outrage: plundering the office and home of Trump’s attorney. Which I believe is aimed less at gaining actionable evidence than intimidating anybody who’s even thinking about getting on board with Trump…
You cooperate with this administration, sucker, and you’ll pay!
Such a continuing barrage of obstruction would crush anyone. But apparently not The Donald.
Lefties still haven’t figured out not only how he keeps going, but why the American people haven’t bought the story that Trump’s a boob and is hemorrhaging support by the day. There seems to be no logic to the fact that this “racist,” “Fascist,” “sexist” “vulgarian” hasn’t crashed and burned (his support is holding at around 50 percent; I think it’s really higher, myself).
But then, the Left — and a lot of the never-Trump Right — haven’t understood this phenomenon from the beginning.
It was never really about Trump, as Trump. It was about those eight long years America groaned under the Democratic Party’s philosophy of governance — what might be termed leadership by sedition.
In Trump they saw a guy who was willing to do anything, say anything, tweet anything that could interupt the Progressivist blitzkrieg. As commentator Dennis Prager has noted, they recognized…
“a man who doesn’t give a damn about what the press says about him. That is the only way to govern. It is the only way to advance the principles of conservatism in the United States — to not give a damn.”
They loved him then, and now that his approach has proven so effective, they love him all the more. And a lot of folks — like Prager himself — who had originally disdained Trump’s candidacy have decided they were wrong and now support him.
My oh my, how can such a thing be?
In particular, liberals are puzzled as to why religious conservatives would tolerate a man of such obvious moral slovenliness…
Stormy Daniels, for cryin’ out loud, a porn star! He even paid her off to keep her quiet! What do you people need to find out about Trump before you’ll abandon him? How can you be so hypocritical?
This is actually a reasonable question. And it has an answer…
Think of the stock market. Sometimes there’s a set of bad conditions that should drive the market down — but doesn’t. Why? Because the market saw those conditions coming and has already discounted them.
Trump is like that. Religious conservatives have always known that Trump’s personal life is a circus. What could some fading porn star possibly reveal that would make it worse? (A porn star who welched on her deal, incidentally.)
And in any event, religious conservatives learned long ago that you can’t always equate effective political leadership with personal virtue.
A sad truth, but a truth nonetheless.
Could the country ever be disappointed by Trump?
If there’s one thing which can be said to fuel The Donald, it’s ego. And a man with an ego the size of his is always in danger of making huge miscalculations.

This graphic circulating online captures the poignancy of the current leftist dilemma. A love affair has ended, and hearts are truly broken…
On the other hand, a meme by somebody calling himself “Jingoist” captures the Stormy Daniels situation with wry humor. Jingoist deserves a Trumpy Bear…
Ben Shapiro, wunderkind of current conservative punditry, grasps the outlook of religious folks toward the nation and The Donald…
“…simply throwing gossipy headlines at him does nothing to him, because we knew who he was when we elected him.
“Perhaps that says something about many religious Americans: in their view, they’ve despaired of the culture anyway, so they may as well support the guy who will enact their priorities.”
Dennis Prager explains his change of heart about Trump — and the reasons for it…
“First, it is unlikely that any other Republican would have defeated Hillary Clinton. Second, he has not only surpassed many of our expectations but also thus far governed in a manner more consistent with conservative principles than any president since Ronald Reagan, and arguably Calvin Coolidge.”
