A FEW GRAPHICS TO MARK
THE END OF A STRANGE YEAR
2020 was a year noted for contagion, economic collapse, and betrayal of our national trust.
Pretty much everything that can be said about this disorienting period has been said. So I’ll just close by presenting an assortment of images that capture our collective through-the-looking-glass experience.
Here’s one that brings a touch of holiday wit to a key preoccupation of the year…
Another Facebook meme alludes to the “mostly peaceful” riots we’ve witnessed, and finds that our current disturbances don’t measure up to a past era of protest…
Of course, one must admit that the events of 2020 have succeeded in changing the atmosphere — with a consequent impact on the literary scene…
…along with a dubious influence on grammar, as actress Jamie Lee Curtis points out…
…while raising some questions of logic that seem beyond answering…
All of which says nothing good about where we turn these days for wisdom and authority, as this promotion for a TV documentary suggests…
Perhaps the worst part of reaching the year 2020 has been its many disappointments…
But having come to advanced age, I find consolation — and a certain amount of pride — in the afternoon naps I take…
As the year turns, I’ll hold fast to my sleep habits…
…while I try to maintain a certain sense of perspective…
May you achieve perspective in your own way.
And may God’s blessing be upon us all — and upon our nation — in 2021.

Happy New Year. I’m always glad to see your blog.
I’m re-reading “My Brother’s Keeper,” sure that I’ll again find that solid foundation that steadies and illuminates. A most wonderful book.

Why, thank you so much, Leslie.
I hope you enjoy my novel once again, and that you have a blessed New Year.
